I suggested The Fox at Willian, which has just been named as Hertfordshire's Dining Pub of the Year 2011 and is listed as number 17 in the top 50 gastro pubs in Britain in the Independent newspaper.
The Fox did not disappoint. One of our visitors joined me in choosing Beer Battered Cod with chunky hand cut chips and garlic-pureed peas. His wife opted for the vegetarian gnocci and MWNN had a main-course-sized portion of the smoked haddock rarebit with poached egg on toasted English muffins.
The food was very good and the service was excellent, efficient, friendly but not intrusive.
Good news for lovers of fine dining and good ale, the owners of The Fox are opening a new Bar/Restaurant in the middle of town, at 20 Hermitage Road in the premises which includes the old Hitchin Ballroom. Yes, I have already signed up for an invitation to one of the previews.
