The word 'Lent' comes from an old English word for springtime. In the Christian church calendar, it is a time of abstinence and reflection - a sort of spring-clean for the soul.
As the weather becomes warmer, I like to open the windows and let in the fresh air. Brighter skies reveal the dust and grime of the winter and the urge to clean and polish becomes insistent.
