Traditional Afternoon Tea

at lunchtime, yesterday.

MWNN's sisters had flown over from Germany and Ireland to celebrate his birthday early.

With the help of my German-based sous-chef, I made traditional sandwiches - smoked salmon and cream cheese, roast beef and horse-radish, Wensleydale cheese and pickle, and poached salmon mousse. The scones, courtesy of Morrisons' Finest, were served with clotted cream and strawberry jam.

The cake was made by Fentons Cakes - a magnificent double-layer Victoria Sponge, covered with white chocolate and hand decorated with fondant icing.

Two pots of tea, Kenyon and Clipper Decaffeinated, kept us suitably hydrated throughout the leisurely meal. We all agreed that we were so stuffed after the sandwiches and scones that we left the cake untouched until 4pm.
