From the top of the hill, we had a good view of the works going on to build the Hitchin Curve. It had been proposed that the chalk for the new embankment would be brought in by lorries. Local objections to the increase in heavy traffic was resolved by paying the local farmer (Cadwell Farm) and extracting the chalk on site.
