It was remarkable that ten people, who had met for the first time on Monday evening, could become such a tight knit musical group in just a few days. The final day of the course was magic. We learned more tunes and spent the afternoon playing as if we were at a real Irish event. Everyone performed a solo piece for voice or instrument (or as a trio in the case of the sisters) with confidence.
Throughout the course, there was an exchange of information about sources, upcoming events and workshops and a generous sharing of expertise. This will continue via email.
The course revived my enthusiasm for traditional folk music. I might even take up the penny whistle so that I can join the fiddlers and woodwind learning the tunes next time.
I hope there is a next time.
