What a week

First it was a million members.

Then it was being named as one of the 19 Strangest Social Networks on the Web (Huffinton Post Tech) "users ("Ravelers") tend to be craftspeople and designers. Knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers and dyers all participate in this community database." Is that why we're strange?

Now it's beating both Facebook and Twitter by scooping the award for Community Site of the Year at the Net Awards last night.

The award was accepted on behalf of the US-based Ravelry team by UIK-based Velvet, one of the volunteer mods and editors.

On the victory of Ravelry.com in the hotly contested “Community Site of the Year” category, Dan added :

“Although communities are fostered within Facebook and Twitter, it’s clear that there’s still room for niche groups to flourish on the web, and Ravelry is an exemplary example of the best ways to manage, motivate, and maintain a group of passionate and engaged users.”
